Lit Hit List: Books We're Looking Forward to - Fall 2019

Fall is the biggest season for book sales, and we can totally understand why with all of the amazing new releases about to come out. Here, Moira and Elizabeth highlight a few of their already-pre-ordered reads.

“The Jetsetters” by Amanda Eyre Ward: I was lucky enough to get to read an advance reader copy of this lovely book. It’s my first by the author, and I was absolutely taken by this sweet and affecting novel about a woman and her three children on a European cruise. If that description makes it sound like fluff, it’s quite the opposite. It’s a really beautiful story about how our family of origin has the power to shape our lives, and the ways in which we can let them save or destroy us. - Moira

“Ninth House” by Leigh Bardugo: I am a sucker for a good book description, and anything that starts with “a tale of power, privilege, dark magic, and murder set among the Ivy League elite” is a sure-fire must-read for me. I loved “The Skulls” as a kid, and this seems like that + magic, and I am all-in on this one. - Elizabeth

“The Red Lotus” by Chris Bohjalian: I’ve been reading Chris Bohjalian since college, and I love his topical literary mystery/thrillers. This one is about an ER doctor and her boyfriend who vacation in Vietnam in order to pay respects to his uncle who died in combat there. While on a bike trip, the boyfriend goes missing. I just began a galley of this March 2020 release, and am so excited for its release! - Moira

“Find Me” by Andre Aciman: I’m ready to be low-key emotionally destroyed by Andre Aciman’s follow-up to “Call Me By Your Name.” I’m not sure I have the emotional fortitude to make it through what happens next to Elio and Oliver, but I do know that I am 100% along for the ride. - Moira

“Royal Holiday” by Jasmine Guillory: I think Jasmine Guillory can do no wrong, and so hearing that she’s writing a new book in “The Wedding Date” series set in England was very exciting for me. This one focuses on Maddie’s mom (Maddie of Maddie and Theo from “The Wedding Party”), a work trip to England, and a slightly more mature romance. I have an ARC in my house that I haven’t found time to pick up yet, but tbh, writing this makes me want to put down what I’m reading and pick that one up. - Elizabeth

“The Nine” by Jeanne McWilliams Blasberg: I have this weird thing for books about boarding school. I feel like there’s something so inherently creepy about them, and it’s not just that they’re full of rich white people that makes me feel that way. I look forward to this book about a young man who uncovers a web of dark historic secrets at his school. - Moira
