Hi.

Welcome to She’s Full of Lit!

Here, we chat about our favorite (and sometimes least favorite) books, share recommendations on everything from what wine pairs best with that work of fiction to facemasks that make your non-fiction read even better, and live our best basic bookworm lives.

Shannon

There have been a bunch of op-eds going around over the past few weeks about whether or not New York is dead (spoiler: it’s not). But what’s really helped it get to the point where it needs to claw back from the brink: affluence.

I enjoyed a lot of the pieces in The Ringer’s Teen Movie Week (except the bracket—really, “Superbad” as the best teen movie of all time?). Here’s one I also slightly disagreed with but still enjoyed: Ranking the mean girls in teen movies.

A fun piece on the history of ringtones.

In case you’re still not on board the “Defund the police” movement, this piece from Vice about the “courtesy cards” cops give their friends and family might help. (The courtesy cards are really just symbolic and an example of “discretion” that cops exercise that often doesn’t keep us safe.)

America’s restaurants are worth saving. Here’s how.

Lastly, take a deep dive into American Christianity’s white supremacy problem.

Moira

What to expect: the third decade.

My husband will not love me telling the story of how he made panzanella for a Passover seder while I was napping, and then had to pick out the bread pieces when I woke up and reminded him about leavened bread…anyway, try Samin Nosrat’s recipe.

Frog and Toad tentatively go outside after months in quarantine.

Because most of us are socializing much less than usual still, here’s what’s coming to your streaming services in September.

Do I want to work out or do I just want a toy?

Elizabeth

A little piece from Hillary Clinton on women’s rights and the power that we need.

I had to quit “Midnight Sun” — it was so bad, y’all — but I did appreciate this ranking of all 349 murmurs in the Twilight series.

This resonated so so hard with me, as a single person who is going through COVID completely alone.

Jesmyn Ward is a treasure, and this piece about grief during 2020 broke my heart.

A round-up from the Strategist on some of the cutest fabric face masks (this year is so strange).
